TC Black wins Spring Football Game, 36-3

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Bo Cordell passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns to lead the TC Black squad to a 36-3 win over TC White in the annual Tusculum College Spring Game held Saturday afternoon at the College's Practice Field.

Cordell, a rising red-shirt junior quarterback from Cincinnati, Ohio, went 19-for-26 on the afternoon as the 2010 South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year returns to the TC line-up after missing most of last season due to a broken foot.

TC Black scored on its opening possession as Cordell found redshirt freshman Kenny Funnye (Georgetown, S.C.) from 12 yards out. Sophomore Logan Cornelius' extra point made it 7-0. The Black defense accounted for the next score as linebacker Aaron Morgan recovered a fumble and returned it for a 33-yard touchdown to make the score 13-0.

At the 2:16 mark of the first quarter, TC White drove into scoring position before the drive stalled. Redshirt freshman kicker Brandon Burkey (Jonesborough, Tenn.) connected on a 40-yard field goal to make it a 13-3 contest.

Cornelius (Chattanooga, Tenn.) answered on the final play of the first half when he drilled a 42-yard field goal for TC Black as they took a 16-3 score into the intermission.

Cordell tossed for three touchdowns in the second half, including two in the third quarter. The first game on a 17-yard strike to 6-10 tight end Wesley Powell (Eclectic, Ala.). Cornelius added the point after to make it 23-3 at the 7:37 mark of the third. Senior running back Brian Marshall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) hauled in a seven-yard TD pass from Cordell on the final play of the period to make it 30-3.

Marshall paced TC Black with 89 all-purpose yards, including four receptions for 73 yards and a TD, along with two rushes for 16 yards. Sophomore running back Chad Blakely (Knoxville, Tenn.) accounted for 98 all-purpose yards with three catches for 79 yards and two carries for 19 yards.

Wide receiver and TC signal caller Kyle Dickey (McDonough, Ga.) hauled in an 18-yard TD pass from Cordell in the right corner of the end zone on the game's final play.

"Overall, this was a very successful afternoon," said Tusculum head coach Frankie DeBusk. "We got in a lot of repetitions in today and saw a lot of players in action. We have been getting better with each practice and today was the best we have looked, defensively. Fourteen practices down and one more to go; we need to finish strong."

Powell finished the game with five catches for 65 yards, while Dickey added two receptions for 26 yards and a score.

For TC White, Cameron Tallent (Evansville, Tenn.) went 11-for-20 for 85 yards, including four tosses to Mykelle Jones for 29 yards. Sophomore Tony Hillman (Duncan, S.C.) added two receptions for 13 yards, while redshirt freshman running back Brandon Bell (Madisonville, Tenn.) rushed three times for 10 yards.

Defensively, rising junior linebacker Brian Alexander (Union Point, Ga.) led TC Black with eight tackles, three sacks and forced a fumble, while Morgan added five tackles to go along with his fumble return for a score. Josh Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied seven tackles, including two for loss, while Desmond Raiford (Dudley, N.C.) made five tackles and a pair of sacks. Sophomore defensive back Evan Dansby (Augusta, Ga.) posted four tackles to go along with two pass break-ups. Kaytron Becton (Miami, Fla.) added four stops and a pass break-up.
