WACO, Texas --- The Tusculum College football team is receiving votes in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll announced College officials Tuesday.
The Pioneers (4-3, 2-0 SAC) received four points and are one of five South Atlantic Conference teams mentioned in this week's rankings. Tusculum's next opponent, Catawba College (7-0, 3-0 SAC), jumped five spots and is listed seventh in the country, following last week's 55-49 win at previously ranked No. 7 Carson-Newman College. C-N dropped eight spots to No. 15. Wingate University is up one spot at No. 18, while Newberry College is on the verge of climbing back into the rankings as they received 35 points.
Defending national champion Grand Valley State University was voted unanimously at No. 1 in this week poll, receiving all 28 first-place votes. Tusculum opponent, North Alabama, climbed one spot and is No. 2 in this week's rankings.
Tusculum and Catawba are the only remaining teams without a blemish on their respective SAC records. The Pioneers are riding a four-game winning streak, while the Catawba Indians have won their last nine outings, dating back to last season. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Niswonger Sports Complex and Pioneer Field.
