Baseball drops home decision to Emory & Henry

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Emory & Henry scored five runs in the seventh inning as the Wasps posted a 10-4 win at Tusculum in a non-conference baseball game at Pioneer Park.

E&H (5-21) records back-to-back wins for the first time this season while the Pioneers fall to 15-12 on the year.

The Wasps recorded 11 hits on the afternoon led by Jared Foley's 3-for-6 performance, while Jacob Bebber and Anthony Umbach each accounted for two-hit outings.

Tusculum shortstop Ben Scartz went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a triple as he records his third 4-hit performance of the season and extends his hitting streak to six straight games.

Bebber put E&H on the scoreboard with his one-out RBI double in the first inning. Tusculum tied the game in the third when Luis Reis led off with an infield hit and crossed the plate on Scartz's RBI double.

Emory & Henry scored three times in the fourth inning to retake the lead at 4-1. Tusculum cut the deficit to 4-2 scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wasps sent nine batters to the plate in the seventh with the big hit coming on Matt Hill's two-run single as E&H extended the lead to 9-2. The visitors added a run in the eighth while TU plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Emory & Henry starting pitcher Drew Lanzo (1-3) pitched 5 1/3 innings and struck out three to record his first win of the season. TU reliever Trejen Fox-Birdwell (0-1) suffered the loss.

Tusculum returns to South Atlantic Conference play this weekend as the Pioneers travel to Lincoln Memorial University for a three-game weekend series against the Railsplitters. TU and LMU are currently tied for second in the league standings at 10-5.
