Tusculum drops road decision against Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Lee University baseball team recorded an 11-1 non-conference win over visiting Tusculum University Tuesday night at Larry Carpenter Stadium.

The Flames (21-17) complete the season sweep over the Pioneers (23-18) as TU drops its third straight game.

Lee erupted for four runs in the opening inning and tallied two more in the second to take a 6-0 advantage.

Flames reliever Seth Coffelt (1-0) recorded the win in relief as he pitched two shutout innings where he scattered three hits and tallied two strikeouts.

Both teams finished with eight hits apiece. Cam Sutto and Josiah Miller both accounted for two hits each, while Tusculum's Luis Reyes went 2-for-3 on the evening.

Tusculum starting pitcher Billy Quinn (1-2) suffered the loss and was one of five players utilized by the Pioneers.

TU's Zane Keener recorded a single to extend his on-base streak to 42 consecutive games.

A remarkable streak ended for TU shortstop Ben Scartz as he committed his only error thus far this year in 141 total fielding chances. He opened the season without an error in his first 140 chances including a team-high 94 assists on 46 putouts.

Tusculum returns to South Atlantic Conference play this weekend when the Pioneers travel to Catawba College for a three-game series beginning with Friday's 6 p.m. single game.
