MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --- Zane Keener went 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Tusculum University baseball team posted a season-opening 14-5 over Barry University Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

The Pioneers (1-0) jumped out to a 12-0 lead, plating five runs each in the first and third innings as TU opens the season with a win for a fourth consecutive year.

Tusculum accounted for 14 hits as every starter posted at least a single including two-hit performances by Christian Ortega, Wes Reynolds and Zach Wilson.

TU hurler Gunner Becker (1-0) picked up the victory in a scheduled start as he allowed three hits, one unearned run, a walk and six strikeouts in his 80-pitch outing.

The Pioneers scored five runs on five hits in the first inning including a RBI single by catcher Will Samuelson and a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Jaden Steagall.

TU tacked on five more runs in the third frame highlighted by Keener's three-run double to center field with two outs as the visitors went up 10-0.

The Pioneers made it 12-0 in the fourth as Zach Wilson drove in Luis Ezra with a one-out single to right field and Kyle Williams plated the second score of the inning with his two-out double to left to drive in Wilson.

Barry scored an unearned run off of Becker in the fourth and added two scores in the fifth and one more in the seventh to make it a 12-4 contest.

But Ortega and Ezra led off the top of the eighth inning with back-to-back homers to put the game out of reach.

Barry finished the game with 10 hits including a 4-for-5 performance by shortstop Brandon Abreu. Omar Baldo also tallied two hits for the Buccaneers.

Tusculum continues its Florida road swing on Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
