DALLAS, Texas --- Tusculum University catcher Nate Montgomery has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud NCAA Division II Academic All-District III Baseball first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Montgomery will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot with the winners being announced later this month.  The Academic All-District 3 team is selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.

Montgomery, a senior from Geneva, Illinois has a 3.81 cumulative grade point average while majoring in sport management.  He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director Roll, Dean's List, President's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.

He earned All-Conference honors behind the plate on two occasions including this year where he was an All-SAC second team choice.  He finished second on the roster with this .358 batting average and finished with the team-lead in hits (68), RBI (480 and putouts (373).  He was second with 12 doubles and tied for second with four home runs.  Montgomery tallied a season-long 13-game hitting streak and closed out his collegiate career hitting safely in his final seven contests.

In his 100-game career with the Pioneers, he posted a .337 batting average and totaled 126 hits, 66 runs, 23 doubles, five home runs and 86 RBI.  His 26 times being hit by a pitch are tied for fourth in TU history and his 667 career putouts are sixth in the Tusculum record book.

Tusculum finished the season with a 30-21 record and tied for third place in the South Atlantic Conference.
