KODAK, Tenn. --- Cade Snapp homered twice and drove in five runs as Carson-Newman University defeated Tusculum College 10-2 in the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament Sunday at Smokies Stadium.

With the win, the second-seeded Eagles (33-17) advanced to play top-seeded Catawba in the winners bracket final, while the third-seeded Pioneers (33-16) dropped into the loser's bracket to face sixth-seeded Wingate in an elimination game later Sunday afternoon. The game was postponed from Saturday night due to heavy rain that forced the suspension of the previous game between Catawba and Lincoln Memorial, which the Indians won 9-8 in 10 innings.

Snapp hit a three-run home run in the top of the first and added a two-run blast in the seventh, while Brandon Roberts went deep on a two-run shot in the ninth to support the pitching of Dustin Batson (6-4), who gave up 11 hits and threw 153 pitches but struck out 11 in a complete-game performance.

The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first against Pioneer starter Christian Raasch (7-4) as Ryan Addington led off with a single and Roberts was hit by a pitch. Snapp then hit an 0-2 pitch for his 15th home run of the season.

Tusculum went down in order just once against Batson, in the bottom of the third. Dante Key picked up a one-out single in the first and Zack Finchum added a one-out single in the second, but both runners were stranded.

In the fourth, the Pioneers' Kevin Victoriano reached on an infield single and Finchum added a two-out single, but Batson retired the sie on a line drive to left to keep the Eagles on top 3-0.

Carson-Newman added two runs in the fifth to chase Raasch, as Jimmy Rice and Roberts delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Austin Kearney extended the Eagles' lead to 6-0 in the sixth on sacrifice fly against Pioneer reliever Cameron Carney.

Tusculum broke through against Batson for a run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Nick Lacina worked out a walk and Finchum followed with his third hit of the game. John Topoleski then brought home Lacina with an RBI single to right to pull the Pioneers within 6-1.

Snapp added his 17th home run in the seventh with Rice on first to extend the Eagles' lead to 8-1, and Roberts connected for his 11th roundtripper following an Addington single in the ninth.

Tusculum closed out the scoring in the bottom of the ninth as pinch-hitter Tandon Dorn walked with one out, pinch-hitter Jordan Huntley singled and J.J. Wesley followed with an RBI single to plate Dorn with the Pioneers' second run of the game.

Snapp finished 2-for-5 with two homers for the Eagles, who had 10 hits as a team. Roberts was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Addington went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Finchum finished 3-for-4 at the plate for the Pioneers, while Wesley went 2-for-2 with an RBI after entering the game in the seventh. Lacina was 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a run scored, as the Pioneers stranded 11 runners on base against Batson and the Eagles.

Raasch, who was the first of six pitchers used by the Pioneers against the Eagles, gave up five hits and five runs (four earned) in 4 1/3 innings, with three strikeouts and no walks.

Tusculum and Wingate will play an elimination game Sunday at 4:30, with the winner advancing to play at 8:30 against the loser of the game between Carson-Newman and Catawba.
