Three Pioneers named to All-SAC Baseball Team

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Three Tusculum College student-athletes have been named to the 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference Baseball Team announced league officials on Wednesday.

Vinny Ferrara and Taylor Foster were named to the All-SAC second team, while John Topoleski garnered honorable mention distinction.

Ferrara, a junior second baseman from Ocean Township, N.J., is batting .295 with 41 hits, including five doubles, one home run and 24 RBI. His 10 sacrifice bunts are second in the league, while his team-leading eight times hit by pitch are tied for ninth in the league. In his last 13 contests, he is batting .326, including an eight-game hitting streak from Apr. 5-18.

Foster, a senior designated hitter from Clinton, Tenn., is second on the team with his .331 batting average. His 47 base hits are second on the team, while his 35 RBI and four home runs are tied for the team-lead for the Pioneers. His 12 multiple-hit games are tied for second on the squad, while his 11 multiple-RBI contests are the best on the TC team.

Topoleski, a rookie third baseman from Lawrenceville, Ga., is leading the Pioneers with his .350 batting average, which is the highest of all conference freshmen. Topoleski has posted eight doubles, one home run and 20 RBI. His six sacrifice bunts are tied for 10th most in the conference. He was named to the SAC Gold Glove Team at third base, where he has a .897 fielding percentage in his 87 total fielding chances at the "hot corner."

Tusculum senior outfielder Trey Drewery was the 2014 SAC Statistical Champion for runs scored per game, averaging 1.12 per contest. The Pioneers were also the team statistical champion for doubles per game (1.91).

Tusculum will be the No. 5 seed at this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will face second-seeded Wingate University in a first round game on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The six-team, double-elimination tournament is being held at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C.

Tusculum has qualified for the SAC Baseball Tournament in each of the program's 15 seasons as a member of the league. The Pioneers will be vying for their fourth SAC Tournament title in program history. TC has won the SAC Tournament in 2005, 2008 and 2012.

The SAC Tournament will run through Sunday where the championship game is slated to start at 1 p.m. The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic berth to next month's NCAA Division II Tournament.
