MARS HILL, N.C. --- Tommy Scala capped off a two-run, ninth-inning with his walk-off single to lead the Mars Hill University baseball team to a 6-5 South Atlantic Conference victory over Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at Henderson Field.

The Lions (18-27, 11-15 SAC) win the SAC series 2-0 as Saturday's second game was cancelled due to rain. The Pioneers (26-19, 14-14 SAC) return to action on Thursday as they compete at the 2014 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament in Forest City, N.C.

Mars Hill rallied from a 5-2 deficit plating two runs in the seventh inning and a pair of unearned runs in the ninth.

The Lions recorded 11 hits on the afternoon, including two hits each by Scala and Shawn Weber.

MHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead plating a run each in the first and second innings. TC's Jeremiah Tullidge tied the game at 2-2 with his two-run double in the third inning.

Tusculum took its first lead of the game in the fourth, as Scott Gibson was hit by a pitch and Jalen Shuffler drew a walk. John Topoleski stepped up and crushed a three-run homer over the left field fence and a 5-2 Tusculum lead.

The Lions scored a pair of runs on three hits in the seventh inning, sparked by a two-run double from Scala.

In the ninth inning, pinch runner Dustin Jones scored from third base on a passed ball to tie the game at 5-5, while also moving Evan Rogers to second base. Scala lined a single to right field to plate Rogers with the game-winning run.

MHU reliever Bradley Moffitt (1-1) picked up the victory, while Tusculum's Billy Sivyer (2-3) suffered the loss.
