Jared Richmond named SAC Baseball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Jared Richmond has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday.

Richmond, a senior first baseman from Fort Smith, Ark., batted .400, while hitting four home runs and 11 RBI to lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 record last week.

During Tusculum's weekend series at Mars Hill College, Richmond went 6-for-11 with 10 RBI and five runs scored as the Pioneers took two of three games from the Lions.

In Tusculum's 10-6 win in the series opener, Richmond helped rally the Pioneers from a pair of three-run deficits. He connected on a two-run homer to pull the Pioneers within 5-4 and followed with another two-run blast to complete the rally.

In game two of the series, Richmond went 3-for-4 with six RBI thanks to a pair of back-to-back. three-run homers in Tusculum 13-11 win.

Richmond posted a sizzling 1.267 slugging percentage in the series and was perfect in his 38 total fielding chances.

Richmond established several school records on the weekend. His two homers on Friday moved him into sole possession of the TC career home run record, which now stands at 34. On Saturday, he connected on home runs No. 22 and 23 to take sole possession of the single-season mark. He already has 71 RBI which is a new school single-season record.

He is hitting a team-best .420 on the season, which is sixth in the conference. His 23 home runs are also the fourth-most in league history, just one shy of the SAC record 24, recorded by three different players.

Richmond also tops in the SAC in RBI (71), total bases (148) and slugging percentage (,914). He is also listed amongst the league leaders in runs scored (60 - 6th in SAC), hits (68 - 9th in SAC), on-base percentage (.529 - 3rd in SAC), walks (34 - 4th in SAC), and putouts (254 - 6th in SAC).

The Pioneers (29-16) are the fifth-seed in this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Forest City, N.C. Tusculum will open against No. 2 seed Mars Hill on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. at McNair Field.
