CINCINNATI, Ohio --- Tusculum College signee
Oliver Santos has been drafted in the 35th round
by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year
Player Draft.
Santos, a 6-2, 180-pound infielder from Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic, recently graduated from USC Salkehatchie, where he was
named to the All-Region X First Team this past season. He
established school single-season records with 72 hits, 46 runs
scored, 45 RBI and a stellar .453 batting average. Santos also
belted 17 doubles in 2009, following the 16 he accounted for last
year.
He leaves USC Salkehatchie as the Indians all-time leader with 126
hits, 33 doubles and 68 RBI. His 79 runs scored are the second most
in school history.
Tusculum captured its fourth South Atlantic Conference title in
the last five years, while posting a 36-18 record. The Pioneers
also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament,
TC's third straight postseason appearance and fifth in the last
seven years. Tusculum's five NCAA Tournament showings are the most
in conference history.
