Pioneers sweep Beach Bash finale

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team won both of its matches on the final day of the College of Charleston Beach Bash, held at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Club.

Tusculum (13-9) hosts a tri-match on April 2 for Senior Day, bringing in Lincoln Memorial (9 a.m.) and Erskine (1 p.m.).

Match 1: Tusculum 3, Texas A&M-Kingsville 2
The top flight of Olivia O'Keefe and Emma Johnson provided the come-from-behind, three-set clincher to down last year's national semifinalist Javelinas: 15-21, 21-18, 15-11. TAMUK had its seven-match winning streak end at the hands of the Pioneers.

Kingsville won the exhibition flight over Morgan Pacione and Destiny Ramsey 21-10, 21-16.

Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless also suffered a 21-19, 21-13 loss at No. 5.

Tusculum got its first point of the day in the fourth flight, courtesy of Olivia Knutson and Katie McLamb's 21-19, 23-21 victory.

The Javelinas got their second point after Landry Tea and Britney Shawel dropped their 21-16, 21-15 decision.

Haley Davis added to her program-leading win total at No. 2 with partner Charlyn Miller. The duo tied the match at 2-2 in their 21-16, 21-9 domination of the opposition.

Match 2: Tusculum 5, Catawba 0
The Pioneers eased through their match with the Catawba Indians, holding the North Carolinians to multiple single-digit scores.

Hall and Lawless stayed in the fifth flight, redeeming themselves with a 21-4, 21-14 victory.

McLamb and Knutson continued their winning day at No. 4, 21-14, 21-15.

Arizona Webb and Emily Venable paired up for the first time, claiming the exhibition match 21-19, 21-13.

Davis and Miller made quick work of their counterparts in the second slot (21-11, 21-6) to clinch the win.

Johnson and O'Keefe won their first set 21-6, but needed extra effort to close out the sweep, 21-19.

The third flight of Shawel and Tea was the final one to finish, sealing the sweep 21-10, 21-12.
