Tusculum felled by ranked Panthers

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The Tusculum University beach volleyball team was defeated by No. 18 Georgia State in straight sets on Saturday (Apr. 3) morning. The Pioneers are the lone NCAA Division II team competing in the 2021 College of Charleston Beach Classic, held at the Creekside Tennis & Swim Complex in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

Tusculum continues play at the tournament on Sunday, April 4. The Pioneers will face No. 19 Stetson at noon, followed by the hosting Cougars at 2:30 p.m.

The pairings finished in reverse order (6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) and competed in two waves (4, 5, 6 and 1, 2, 3).

Arizona Webb and Madalyn Bass paired up in the sixth/exhibition match, dropping a 21-13, 21-6 decision.

Next, the duo of Skyellar Hall and Emily Lawless recorded their first loss of the season and in their debut in the fifth flight (21-5, 21-9).

Emily Venable and Mabry Ward moved up a slot to No. 4 for the first time and collected a 21-10, 21-6 loss.

At the No. 3 pair, Britney Shawel and Diana Bierwagen are the lone pair to remain in the same flight all season. The duo recorded a 21-13, 21-15 fall.

Freshmen Olivia O'Keefe and Charlyn Miller are credited with the closest set score of the day in a 21-9, 21-18 defeat.

The top flight of Haley Davis and Emma Johnson took part in the most tightly-contested of the morning (21-17, 21-14).
