Pioneers ink three for Tusculum Golf

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Three student-athletes have committed to attend Tusculum University and play golf for the Pioneers announced TU head coach Hunter Chandley.

Joining the Pioneers in the fall of 2024 are Gavin Sells and Harrison Price on the men's squad, while Maylei Hildebrand will be a new addition to the women's team.

Sells, a local product from Greeneville, Tennessee, was the seventh-ranked player in the State of Tennessee after completing his final prep season at Greeneville High School. He is listed in the top-500 junior golfer rankings for the United States and was the 2022 medalist at the Tri-Star Open. He holds a JGS scoring average of 70.2.

Coach Chandley Comments on Gavin Sells: "Gavin is a phenomenal local talent. His swing speed is something that sets him apart and is why he has had a successful career to this point. He is one of the best junior golfers in Tennessee. We got after Gavin early on, and we expect big things from him next fall and for years to come."

Price comes to Tusculum from Winchester, England where he was a member of the Hampshire U18 County Team where he posted a 73.4 tournament stroke average. He was the 2023 recipient of the Hampshire Isle of Wight and Channel Islands Young Player of the Year Award.

Coach Chandley Comments on Harrison Price: "Harrison has one of the best tempos in his golf swings that I have seen in my short time recruiting, along with a killer short game. We are expecting Harrison to come in next fall and make noise as well."

Hildebrand, another local product from Greeneville, just completed her prep career at South Greene High School. She won the 2023 Junior Tri-Cities Amateur Championship and was the 2023 Grassroots Media Player of the Year. She swept medalist honors at both the TSSAA District and Regional Tournaments. She is an outstanding student as well where she is a member of the National Honors Society and has a 4.4 cumulative grade point average.

Coach Chandley Comments on Maylei Hildebrand: "Maylei is an extraordinary player. She is constantly working to get better and her dedication makes her one of the best women's players in the entire state. I couldn't be more excited to have her joining us next fall. Anyone you talk to says no one will work as hard as she does and that type of contagious work ethic is exactly what we're looking for."

Tusculum University is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference.
