GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University coaching legend Mike Joy was honored on Thursday (April 6) with the announcement of a planned outdoor training and fitness area which will bear his name.

The presentation was made at the site of the new facility, located adjacent to the recently renovated Tusculum Athletic Weight Room on the lower level of the Scott M. Niswonger Commons. The "Joy of Fitness Area" features a turfed training facility spanning over 1,000 square feet. Phase 1 of the project has already been completed with the installation of artificial turf. Phases 2 & 3 will include: fencing, additional sidewalk accessibility, landscaping and a covered canopy.

Joy served as TU's women's soccer coach for the last 26 seasons, including four years (1997-2001) where he was also the head coach of the Tusculum tennis teams.

Tusculum tennis legend and 2004 graduate Lesley Murray Hawk and her family have provided funds for the new facility and have chosen to name the fitness area in honor of Coach Joy in recognition of his longtime service to the athletic department and the University.

The Athletic Weight Room was renovated last summer and opened to rave reviews by TU student-athletes and coaches. The new facility more than triples the former Alumni Weight Room, which was converted last summer, into in a state-of-the-art Wellness Center which is available for use by all University students, faculty and staff.
