Wingo, Daniel named Zaxby's Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum volleyball outside hitter Deklan Wingo and lacrosse attacker Tia Daniel have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week. Daniel earns this honor for a second time this year.

Wingo, a sophomore from Chester, Virginia, led the Pioneers to a 1-1 record this past weekend. He averaged 3.38 kills, 2.38 digs and 0.38 blocks per set. He accounted seven kills and five digs against North Greenville. He followed with a career-high 20 kills with a .308 hitting percentage in Tusculum's 3-2 win over Emmanuel. He also recorded a career-best 14 digs in the victory.

On the season, Wingo has totaled 150 kills, 20 service aces, 73 digs, and 36 total blocks.

Daniel finished with six goals and three assists for nine points as the Pioneers defeated Coker 20-6 on Sunday in their only action of the week. Daniel scored four of her six goals in the second half to help Tusculum outscore Coker 11-1 after halftime. Daniel also led the Pioneers with eight draw controls and shared the team lead with three caused turnovers.

The Langley, British Columbia native leads the Pioneers with 20 goals, 11 assists and 31 points in six games. She ranks in the top-10 in the South Atlantic Conference in goals (sixth), assists (fourth) and points (seventh) and is fifth in the conference with 33 draw controls. Daniel has scored at least one goal in 29 consecutive games dating to the 2020 season, and ranks fourth in program history with 111 goals, third with 34 assists and fifth with 145 points in 35 career games.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
