GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum punter Andrew Cantrell and cross country runner Emily Coddington have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Cantrell, a graduate student from Sparta, Tennessee, averaged 45.5 yards on his six punts including a career-best five inside the 20-yard line in Tusculum's 23-21 win at Chowan on Saturday. His five punts inside the 20 are the second-most in program history.
Four of his punts were inside the six-yard line including two in the fourth quarter, which flipped field position and kept the Hawks pinned deep in their own territory. His second punt was muffed at the two-yard line and was recovered in the end zone for a Tusculum touchdown.
His 66 career punts inside the 20 are the third-most in school history and is closing in on the school record of 70 posted by his older brother Hunter (70 - 2014-2017).
His 43.7 punting average is second in the league and 15th in the nation, while his eight punts inside the 20 are a SAC-best. The Pioneers are off to their first 2-0 start since 2013.
Coddington, a junior from Acosta, Pennsylvania, posted a runner-up finish at Saturday's Walters State Invitational. She covered the rainy 5-kilometer course in 20:24.7 as TU also garnered second place honors as a team.
She carded a 1:38 improvement from last week's Eye Opener in Spartanburg, South Carolina where she navigated the 5K course in 22:02.2.
The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby's, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby's Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
