GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University guard Trenton Gibson and sprinter Hachlaine Petit have been named the Zaxby's Athletes of the Week.
Gibson, a sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, averaged 21 points per game while leading the TU men's basketball team to a pair of South Atlantic Conference victories. The 2019 SAC Freshman of the Year poured in a career-high 26 points in TU's 77-70 road win at Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday. He followed that with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the Pioneers' 75-66 victory over Newberry on Saturday.
With the wins, Tusculum improved to 12-9 overall and 8-5 in league play to climb into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings.
The Venissieux, France native also set the Tusculum school record in the 800 meters of 2:27.42 at the ETSU Invitational on Jan. 10, which was subsequently broken the following week by teammate Gabrielle Beckett at 2:24.81. Petit is sixth on the TU indoor performance list in the 200 meters, with a time of 26.42 seconds set at the Gamecock Opener on Jan. 17.
