Buie steps down as golf coach, Forsberg named interim

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum vice president of student success and athletics Doug Jones has announced on Thursday that Adam Buie has resigned from his position as the head coach for the men's and women's golf programs.  Jones also announced that current director of athletic marketing and promotions Nick Forsberg, will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the spring season.

Buie is stepping down for personal reasons after taking over the program last summer following the retirement of long-time head coach Bob Dibble.

Forsberg, a native of Staples, Minnesota, will continue to serve in both capacities as director of marketing and golf coach during the interim period.

"We would like to wish Coach Buie all the best in his future endeavors," said Jones.  "I would also like to thank Nick Forsberg for his willingness to step in and assist our golf programs.  Nick is a great ambassador for Tusculum College and I know he will serve our student-athletes well."

Forsberg was a four-year standout on the Tusculum golf team from 2012-2016 where he led the Pioneers to the 2015 South Atlantic Conference championship.  He helped the Pioneers to 11 tournament titles and ended his career with a 74.40 stroke average which ranks third in Tusculum history.  His 89 competitive rounds played are the second-most in Tusculum history while his 18 career sub-par rounds are ranked third in the TC record book.  He earned All-Conference laurels twice and was a two-time SAC All-Tournament selection.  He accounted for 25 top-20 finishes during his career, including 20 times in the top-10 and 12 top-five performances.

Forsberg closed out his senior campaign with a 72.93 scoring average, which ranks fifth in TC history while earning All-SAC first team accolades.  He turned in eight sub-par rounds in his final collegiate season, won medalist honors at the Etowah Spring Challenge and led the Pioneers to five tournament titles.

During the 2014-2015 season, he helped the Pioneers to five team titles, including the SAC Championship where he carded a one-under par total 143 to claim SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors and made a birdie on the final hole to secure the championship medal and the Pioneers' first-ever SAC Championship.  Tusculum earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament where he finished 33rd individually at the South/Southeast Super Regional.

"I am honored to be called upon to fill this role for the remainder of the spring. It is always a great opportunity to serve our student-athletes and it being at my alma mater is very special," said Forsberg. "I look forward to this spring and our teams working towards a SAC Championship."

The 2016 Tusculum graduate finished with a 3.75 cumulative grade point average while majoring in sport management.  He earned 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors in his senior campaign and was named the SAC Men's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year for both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.  Forsberg was a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and was the 2016 recipient of the Tusculum President's Award.

Outside of golf, Forsberg was an active student on campus, participating and becoming president of the Pioneer Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

After Forsberg's graduation in 2016, he joined the athletics department as the new graduate assistant for all administrative staff while obtaining his Master's degree in human resource development in 2017.
