Guervil, Duke named Bojangles Athletes of the Week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum sprinter Widchard Guervil and basketball forward Kendrea Duke have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week.

Guervil, a freshman from Fort Myers, Florida, finished third in his heat and fifth overall in the 60 meters at last weekend's ETSU Invitational.  In Saturday's finals, he posted a time of 6.92 seconds.  On Friday, he posted a time of 6.86 seconds in the 60-meter preliminaries which is a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. It was the fourth-fastest among the 103 competitors in the event and better than the provisional qualifying time of 6.88 seconds.

Duke, a junior from Hendersonville, Tennessee, averaged 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Pioneers. Duke came off the bench in both games for the Pioneers, scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds in a loss to fourth-ranked Carson-Newman on Wednesday, then tallying 17 points with four rebounds in a 72-65 victory over Newberry on Saturday. Duke shot 7-for-12 from the field and 14-for-16 from the foul line in the two games, and also had a pair of blocked shots. Duke, who made her season debut on Jan. 6 at Lenoir-Rhyne, is averaging 9.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in three games this season for the Pioneers.
