GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College basketball standouts Kendall Patterson and Kasey Johnson have been named the Bojangles Athletes of the Week. Both earn their second Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Kendall Patterson, a 5-10 senior from Burlington, North Carolina averaged 20.5 points per game in leading the TC men's basketball team to a 1-1 record last week.
Patterson opened the week with 17 points and seven assists in Tusculum's 101-92 overtime win at Mars Hill last Wednesday. He followed with 24 points, four steals and shot 9-of-10 from the free throw line in TC's 83-79 home loss to third-ranked Queens.
On the season, Kendall Patterson is averaging 15.9 points per game (10th in SAC) and leads the team in assists, dishing out 6.0 helpers per contest, which is the second highest average in the South Atlantic Conference and 19th-best in NCAA Division II. He is also shooting 40 percent from three-point land and his 2.3 steals per game are second in the league (27th in NCAA II).
Johnson, a sophomore from Greensboro, North Carolina, averaged 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocked shots in two games for the Pioneers last week.
The 6-foot forward registered her third double-double of the season with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks at Mars Hill on Wednesday, shooting 8-for-17 from the field. On Saturday, Johnson reached double figures in scoring for a third straight game with 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals against Queens. During the week, Johnson played in 78 of a possible 80 minutes.
Johnson leads the Pioneers in scoring at 13.7 points per game and is also the team's leading rebounder with 8.1 boards per contest. She is also averaging 2.1 blocked shots and 1.3 steals per game.
