Pioneers run at Golden Eagle Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Friday, hosted by Tennessee Tech University.

A total of five teams competed at the meet, with the Tusculum women taking fourth place and the men finishing fifth. This is the final regular-season meet for the Pioneers before competing at the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Newberry, South Carolina.

MEN'S RECAP
Sophomore Simon Ray was the Pioneers' top finisher, placing 28th with a time of 29:17.70. Senior Ryan Drysch took 34th place at 30:19.31, with freshman Levi Carson claiming 37th place at 32:05.16. Freshman Konnor Weaver was 41st overall at 34:12.85, and freshman Jack Watson finished 42nd at 34:22.76.

Tennessee Tech had three of the top four finishers, including race winner Miceal McCaul with a time of 25:37.39, and won the team event with 31 points. Morehead State (43 points) was second, followed by Northern Colorado (48 points), Tennessee State (126 points) and Tusculum (130 points).

WOMEN'S RECAP
Grad student Tashianna Gray covered the six-kilometer course in 24:11.76 and was the Pioneers' top finisher in 23rd place. Grad student Alayna Suitte was 32nd in 26:45.02, and grad student Megan Humiston was 35th in 27:56.02. Freshman Sofia Cuesta Fuoss finished in 36th place at 28:41.61, and junior Victoria Caliendo was 40th overall at 31:02.85.

Tennessee Tech and Northern Colorado combined for 10 of the top 11 finishers, but Tennessee Tech was able to squeeze out the team victory with 28 points to 30 for Northern Colorado, who had race winner Regina Mpigachai in 19:31.69 for the victory by just over two minutes. Morehead State was third with 66 points, followed by Tusculum (128 points) and Tennessee State (136 points).
