Tusculum women finish 10th, men 11th at SAC Cross Country Championship

PINEVILLE, Ky. --- The Tusculum women finished 10th, while the men posted an 11th place showing at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday morning. The event was held at the Wasioto Winds Course and hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.

Pauline Muiruri was the top finisher for the Tusculum women, posting a season-best 5,000-meter time of 20:24, which was good enough for 28th place.

In the men's 8K championship, senior Lawson Burrow was the top scorer for the Pioneers as he finished with a career-best time of 27:18.8 to place 28th in his last Tusculum race.

Rookie Mackenzie Newsome was TC's second finisher with a season-best time of 21:46.8 for 60th place. Senior Paige Bible recorded her second-best time of the year at 21:53.3 to finish 61st in her final collegiate run. Deondra Thomas accounted for a time of 22:33.1 to finish 72nd, while Ashley Andrukonis finished 75th with a personal-best time of 22:46.0. Sierra Hanson (26:19.1) and Lillian Wallace (27:53.5) finished 89th and 90th, respectively.

In the men's meet, Jacob Cutshall was TC's second finisher as he posted an 8K time of 27:20.5 and placed 32nd. Caleb Cutshall finished 37th with his time of 27:30.4, while rookie J'Quen Johnson tallied a season-best time of 28:11.7 for 58th place. Will Noel finished with his time of 32:46.4 to finish 85th to round out the Tusculum scoring.

Wingate won the women's championship for a third straight year as the Bulldogs accounted for five of the top-13 runners and finished with 37 points. Queens finished runner-up with 64 points, followed by Anderson (74), Carson-Newman (145), Coker (149), Lincoln Memorial (156), Catawba (166), Mars Hill (211), Lenoir-Rhyne (249), Tusculum (271), Brevard (276) and Newberry (334).

Queens' Catie Byrd was the SAC Women's Runner of the Year, while Abbie Adams of Catawba was the SAC Freshman Runner of the Year.

Queens had five of the top-10 finishers in the men's meet to capture the program's first SAC Championship, while snapping Mars Hill's incredible run of 18 consecutive men's titles. The Royals finished with 34 points, while Mars Hill was second with 44 points. Anderson posted 151 for third place, followed by Lincoln Memorial (159), Wingate (166), Catawba (174), Coker (187), Brevard (209), Lenoir-Rhyne (209), Carson-Newman (223), Tusculum (225) and Newberry (297).

Alex Griggs of Mars Hill was the SAC Men's Runner of the Year, while Queens' Yannick Stubbe was the SAC Freshman of the Year.
