NEWTON, N.C. --- Lindsey Mank finished in fourth place to lead
the Tusculum College women's cross country team at Friday's
Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton, North Carolina. Caleb and
Jacob Cutshall were the Pioneers' top finishers on the men's
side.
Overall, the TC women came home with a third place finish in
the 5,000-meter event held at Southside Park. Tusculum's men
finished fourth in the 8,000-meter race.
Mank, a freshman from Smithton, Illinois, shined in her
collegiate debut posting a time of 21:38.08 to cross the line with
a top-five finish. Mackenzie Newsome, also making her Pioneer
debut, finished 10th after posting a 22:31.40 while Paige Bible was
a few seconds back in 11th (22.34.48).
Pauline Muiruri also competed in her first event with Tusculum
and came home with a 13th place showing after crossing the line in
22:51.94. Deondra Thomas posted a time of 23:11.59 to finish 16th
in her first collegiate race as the Pioneers' final scorer.
Other Tusculum competitors included Ashley Andrukonis who
finished 20th (23:49.84), Samantha Vogt in 21st (24:17.30) and
Lillian Wallace in 24th (26:27.24).
In the men's event, Caleb Cutshall finished sixth with a time
of 28:07.57 while Jacob Cutshall was less than a second back in
seventh at 28:07.63. Lawson Burrow opened his senior campaign with
a 15th place finish after crossing the line in 29:35.28 while Erick
Koskey was TC's fourth scorer in 17th at 30:42.27.
J'Quen Johnson posted a time of 30:59.99 to claim a 20th place
effort and become Tusculum's final scorer in his first collegiate
race. Cory Ramsey came home 23rd with a time of 31:33.39 and
finished 23rd. Both Will Noel and Jesse Harrell rounded out the
Pioneers efforts as they also made their collegiate debuts. Noel
ran a 32:00.58 for a 25th place finish while Harrell ran a 39:47.76
and finished 29th.
Tusculum will return to the course next Saturday at the
Carson-Newman Invitational in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
