CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Tusculum College sophomore Samantha Vogt posted the seventh-fastest 5,000-meter time in Tusculum women's cross country history Saturday morning at the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, North Carolina. Senior David Cooper was the Pioneers' top finisher on the men's side.
Vogt ran the 5K event in 19:24.6, which earned her 21st place honors. It was the second race in a row that she eclipsed the 20-minute mark. Cooper posted a time of 26:35 in the men's 8,000-meter event to claim 28th place.
The event was contested at the McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. As a team, the Pioneer men finished 15th out of 25 squads, while the women came home 23rd out of 27 teams.
The Pioneer men's second finisher was freshman Jacob Cutshall who posted a time of 28:28.1 for an 82nd place finish. Senior Zachary Simpson was scored as Tusculum's third finisher with a time of 28:35.2 for 90th place honors, while sophomore Corey Ramsey was TC's fourth scorer with a time of 30:13.8.
Junior Erick Koskey made his second appearance in a TC uniform and recorded a time of 30:32.9 to be TC's fifth scorer. Junior Lawson Burrow and freshman Gray Deanda also competed for the Pioneers, with Burrow running a 30:49.8 and Deanda a 31:42.5.
On the women's side, sophomore Paige Bible was the Pioneers' second finisher with a time of 22.10.6. TC's third finisher was junior Ashley Gregg who finished with a time of 22.37.7, while sophomore Allison Hall ran a 26:45.5 and was TC's fourth finisher. Freshman Alexis Berlin was TC's final scorer with a time of 29:24.6.
Following an off-week, both Pioneer squads will run the final race of the regular season on Oct. 25 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton, North Carolina.
