LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Tusculum senior David
Cooper recorded his fastest time of the season to claim a
seventh-place finish in a stacked field at the Greater Louisville
Classic on Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. Sophomore
Samantha Vogt was the Pioneers' top finisher on the women's
side.
The event was contested at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The
Pioneer men finished 23rd out of 43 teams representing NCAA
Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA. Cooper, a native of
Greeneville, Tennessee, posted a time of 26:02.63 on the
8,000-meter course.
Junior Lawson Burrow was TC's second finisher, and bested his
old season-best time of nearly three seconds with a time of
27:28.47 to claim 91st place honors. The Pioneers' third finisher
was freshman Jacob Cutshall, who came home 145th with a new
career-best time of 28:22.87.
Senior Zachary Simpson was scored as Tusculum's fourth
finisher with a season-best time of 28:28.32. Junior Erick Koskey
made his Pioneer debut and recorded a time of 29:27.21 to be TC's
fifth scorer.
Sophomore Corey Ramsey and freshman Gray Deanda also posted
new season-best times. Ramsey eclipsed the 30-minute mark for the
first time this season with a time of 29:45.30, while Deanda ran
the course in 30:24.11.
The Pioneer women didn't post a team score due to only having
four runners compete in the race. Vogt set a new season-best time,
and broke the 20-minute barrier, by finishing the 5,000-meter
course in 19:55.08. The Maryville, Tennessee native was 53rd
overall and 14th among DII competitors.
Sophomore Paige Bible also set a new season-best mark with a
time of 21:58.79. Junior Ashley Gregg recorded a season-best time
of 22:57.96, while sophomore Allison Hall ran the course in
24:25.01 for a new season-best time.
Both Pioneer squads will return to the course next Saturday
(Oct. 11) at the annual Royals Cross Country Challenge in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
