Tusculum cross country teams run well at Bulldog Invitational

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's cross country team finished second, while the TC men placed third amongst NCAA Division II teams at the Bulldog Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at Laurel Hill. The meet was hosted by The Citadel.

In the men's 8K race, David Cooper posted a collegiate personal-best time of 26:43, which is the 13th fastest time in school history. He finished fourth overall and second amongst DII runners. Freshman Lawson Burrow posted a time of 28:20.41 to finish 15th overall and seventh in the DII division. Zachary Simpson was 28th overall (15th in DII) with his time of 29:49.70, while Kekona Soon tallied a time of 29:58.77 to place 29th (16th in DII). George Blalock (36:31.27 - 22nd in DII) and Elijah Minter (26th - Elijah Minter) rounded out the scoring for the Tusculum men's squad.

Host The Citadel won the men's race with 33 points, while Lenoir-Rhyne finished runner-up with 59 points. North Greenville was third with 70 points, followed by Tusculum with 100 points, Charleston Southern (111) and Claflin (170).

Tusculum freshman Maggie Bernabei was the top TC runner as she posted a personal best time of 21:31 on the 5,000-meter course. Bernabei finished 15th overall and sixth amongst DII runners. Senior Jenny Grant was 19th overall with her time of 22:22, which was eighth in the DII meet. Paige Bible was 21st with 22:39 (10th in DII), while Ashley Gregg placed 27th overall with a personal-best time of 23:14 (14th in DII). Lakesa Hendrix finishes 40th (24th in DII) with a time of 24:33, while Carol Hogan rounded out the TC scoring with her 45th place showing (28th overall) and time of 28:15.

Lenoir-Rhyne finished first overall with 34 points, while Division I The Citadel was second with 36 points. D-I Georgia Southern accounted for 57 points, while Tusculum was fourth with 112 points. North Greenville finished fifth with 125 points, while Claflin was sixth with 168 points.

Tusculum returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 6) when they travel to the Maryville College Invitational in Maryville, Tenn.
