ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Simon Holzapfel has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the fourth time this year he has earned this honor and eighth occasion of his collegiate career.
Holzapfel, a senior from Nuremberg, Germany (Neves Gymnasium Nuremberg) recorded his fifth straight individual title of the season, by winning the Lenoir-Rhyne University Invitational. He captured his 15th career individual title as he won the 8,000-meter race with a time 25:10.3, shattering the previous best by a remarkable 43 seconds. Holzapfel established the previous TC record of 25:53 at last year's South Atlantic Conference Championship
Holzapfel also owns 15 of the top twenty 8K times in school history, including the top 11. He is a two-time All-Conference First Team honoree, including 2009 where he was the SAC Runner of the Year.
The Pioneers are back in action Nov. 6 as they compete at the SAC Championship in Wingate, N.C.
