WINGATE, N.C. --- Tusculum College sophomore Simon
Holzapfel finished ninth at the 2008 NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional Cross Country Championship, Saturday morning on
the Wingate University campus.
Holzapfel, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, posted a time of 33:17
on the 10,000-meter course, posting the best finish ever by a
Pioneer in a NCAA men's cross country event. Holzapfel wraps up a
solid season after finishing runner-up at last month's South
Atlantic Conference Championship and earning a spot on the All-SAC
First Team.
Freshman teammate Sean Crawford (Lexington, Ohio)
finished 59th with a time of 35:59 for the 2008 All-SAC Second Team
honoree.
In the women's meet, senior Alicja Dembna
(Poznan, Poland) finished 42nd with a time of 25:46 in her final
collegiate race. Dembna, a two-time All-Conference runner, was
Tusculum's top runner in every meet this season.
