
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team's comeback fell short on Tuesday night (Oct. 11) as Carson-Newman claimed the season series.
The Pioneers (7-10, 5-4 SAC) dropped the rematch to the Eagles (12-5, 8-2 SAC) by scores of 10-25, 15-25, 25-22, 24-26.
Carson-Newman had three players with double-digit kills: Maddie Hurst (13), Emerson Ahsmuhs (12), and Taylor Keeran (11). Blair Cherry dished out 46 assists, while McKenna Hall landed four service aces. Defensively, libero Bennett McCombs finished with 21 digs and Bella Cardello was credited with six block assists.
Addison McLarty and McKayla Willey each notched 10 kills as the latter hit .500. Rounding out the scoring were Martina Foster (8), Whitney Thompson (7), Olivia Crowl (2), Madison Adkins (2), Karris Oller (1), and Amiranee Au (1). Adkins distributed 32 helpers and rounded out her double-double with 13 digs. Au tallied two aces from behind the line. McLarty had a hand in four blocks with Thompson just behind at three (one solo, two assists).
Carson-Newman hit .271 as a team with 53 kills and 17 errors on 133 total attempts. Tusculum hit .125 with 41 kills, 23 errors, and 144 total attacks. The Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (51-38), service aces (9-4), digs (67-55), and total blocks (8-7).
Tusculum takes aim at Wingate, who is receiving votes in the national poll once again, with a Friday night showdown (Oct. 18) in Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers and Bulldogs have a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
