Women's Volleyball goes to UVA Wise

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team plays just one match within the next 10 days, a Tuesday (Oct. 19) night contest at UVA Wise.

RECAPPING THE WEEK
Tusculum (15-2, 11-1 SAC) won the weekend over Coker and Wingate, extending its winning streak to five and elevating its home record to 9-0.

Highlights abounded in the win over Wingate. For the first time in program history, the Pioneers swept the regular season meetings against Wingate. It was also the first time since 2006 that Tusculum beat the Bulldogs in Greeneville. Additionally. TU held the visitors to their lowest hitting percentage (.107) since the 2019 season. Capping off the monumental match, Carly Sosnowski surpassed 1,000 collegiate digs, which includes 110 at a previous institution.

Raeley Matthews recorded 22 kills (3.14 per set), ahead of Emiah Burrowes (18), Carli Pigza (14), and Peyton Gash (11) in the double-digit range. Elise Carmichael tallied 38 assists, followed by Catherine Clingan's 27. Matthews led the Pioneers in service aces with six, including a career-high five against Coker. Burrowes, Emma Johnson, and Carmichael collected a pair of aces each as well.

Defensively, a trio of Pioneers reached double-figure digs: Sosnowski (35), Burrowes (16), and Matthews (12). Burrowes was involved in the most blocks and is credited with six block assists, highlighted by tying her career-high five against the Bulldogs. Lydia Collins contributed five total blocks (one solo, four assists) and Bailey Parker collected four assists.

Carmichael leads Division II in aces with 46 and aces per set (0.75). Sosnowski is now averaging over five digs per set (5.11), good for 39th nationally. As a team, the Pioneers sit within the top-50 in win-loss percentage (13th; 0.882), aces per set (22nd; 2.11), total aces (32nd; 137), and opponent hitting percentage (40th; 0.137).

Across the SAC, TU leads the league in aces per set and win-loss percentage. The Pioneers are second in aces, while ranked third in assists per set (12.00), hitting percentage (0.214), kills per set (12.58), and opponent hitting percentage.

LOOKING AHEAD
UVA Wise (4-15, 0-12 SAC) will also have an extended break after hosting the Pioneers, next playing on October 30 against Limestone. The Cavaliers are led offensively by Adison Minor with 145 kills. She is followed by Kelsey Green (112) and Cassidy Farley (100), who has a .306 hitting percentage. Rylee Waye has dished out 285 assists, ahead of Zoe Avery's 125. Behind the line, Green has landed a team-best 25 aces, while Cana Davidson and Avery are credited with 17 and 15, respectively. Defensively, four Cavaliers have recorded over 100 digs: Matelyn Gibson (171), Waye (133), Davidson (127), and Kaylee Scarce (117). Farley is by far the best blocker for UVA Wise, totaling 54 (17 solo, 37 assists).
