Tusculum Falls to Eagles in Four Sets

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team fought hard in a fierce conference match on Saturday afternoon in Pioneer Arena, falling to Carson-Newman in four sets.

The Eagles (19-6, 13-5 SAC) won by scores of 15-25, 29-27, 25-14, 28-26 to prevail over the Pioneers (12-12, 9-9 SAC).

Carson-Newman was led offensively by double-digit kills from Megan Oldenburger (13), Erin Edwards (12), and Marnie Streeter (10). Taylor Rohr, Elena Vasquez, and Madison Rademacher split the setting duties, combining for 41-of-47 assists. Streeter knocked down three service aces, while Morgan Ballard collected a pair. Ballard gathered 23 digs as the libero. Rohr and Streeter finished their double-doubles with 10 digs each. Kaina Roehrkasse was credited with six total blocks (one solo, five assists), followed by Kendall Cooley with four block assists.

For the Pioneers, Emiah Burrowes led the way with nine kills, while Sydney Byrd notched a career-high eight on a .333 hitting percentage. Carli Pigza and Gracee Peters added seven kills to the effort. Elise Carmichael and Alyssa Rojas tag-teamed as the setters and were nearly even in the assist category. The freshman Carmichael dished out 21, while the senior Rojas pushed out 20. At the line, Carmichael and Nevena Pejovic collected a pair of aces each, with Rojas rounding out the column by grabbing one. Defensively, Burrowes dug up 16 attacks, followed by Carly Sosnowski's 15 and Gabby Gray's 14. In the front row, for the second-straight match, Taylor Blythe assisted on seven blocks. Byrd gained another personal-best mark with five total blocks (one solo, four assists).

Carson-Newman finished the match with a .199 hitting percentage with 56 kills, 25 attack errors, and 156 total attempts. TU tallied 50 kills, 25 errors, and 154 attacks for a .162 hitting percentage. The Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (47-45), digs (70-66), and aces (8-5). Tusculum finished with 11 total blocks to Carson-Newman's nine.

Tusculum will hit the road for weekend rematches with Coker and Wingate, starting Friday night.
