Pioneers Battle the Trojans to the End

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team fell to the Anderson Trojans in a hard-fought conference match on Friday night, in spite of a career night from libero Carly Sosnowski.

The Trojans (10-2, 7-1 SAC) won by scores of 25-27, 30-28, 25-14, 25-16 to down the Pioneers (6-7, 4-4 SAC).

Anderson was led offensively by Maya Learmonth and Hailee Wilhelm, who had each 11 kills and hit over .300. Senior Emily Conlin dished out 44 assists, while Alexandra Petrilli collected five service aces against the Pioneers. Lindsay McCurley finished with a team-high 20 digs for the Trojans and Noelle Knutsen recorded six total blocks. 

For the Pioneers, Emiah Burrowes led the way with 15 kills, while Gabby Gray (12) and Carli Pigza (10) reached double-digits in the same category. Gray was the most efficient on the team, hitting .244. The setting duo of Elise Carmichael and Catherine Clingan combined for 45 assists on the night. At the service line, Clingan was credited with a team-high three aces with Gray collected the remaining two. Sosnowski finished with a career-high 29 digs in the effort, alongside her five assists. Taylor Blythe recorded four block assists at the net. 

Anderson finished the match with a .203 hitting percentage with 48 kills, 18 attack errors, and 148 total attempts. TU tallied 55 kills, 29 errors, and 164 attacks for a .159 hitting percentage. The Pioneers led the Trojans in assists (55-46) and digs (76-66), while the home team recorded more aces (11-5) and total blocks (11-6).

Tusculum continues its SAC weekend road series against Newberry tomorrow at 1pm.
