Tusculum volleyball falls 3-0 at Anderson, five-match winning streak snapped

ANDERSON, S.C. --- The Anderson volleyball team recorded its eighth consecutive win, while snapping Tusculum's five-match winning streak in a 3-0 South Atlantic Conference win Friday night at the Abney Athletic Center.                               

The Trojans (13-3, 7-1 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-13 to secure its No. 2 spot in the league standings.

Anderson posted a .317 hitting percentage, while Tusculum (10-6, 7-4 SAC) hit for minus .041 marking the first time in eight years that the Pioneers posted a negative attack percentage (232 consecutive matches). The last negative hitting performance came against Wingate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional opener.

The Trojans finished the night with 40 kills, eight errors in 101 total attacks, while Tusculum had 21 kills, 25 errors and 98 attempts.

AU's Kathryn Hughes led the charge with 15 kills and a .480 hitting percentage.  Rachel Burts and Marissa Mitter had eight kills each while setter Emily Conlin tallied 31 assists, two service aces and seven digs.

Mariah Lewis led Tusculum with her nine kills and a .353 hitting percentage.  TC setter Shannon Murphy tallied 19 assists and 10 digs for her ninth straight double-double and 14th of the year.  Tusculum libero Melissa Mazur was credited with 10 digs on the night.

The Pioneers will be back in action next Friday when they return to the Palmetto State for the SAC / Peach Belt Conference crossover as the Pioneers will face host USC Aiken along with Augusta.  TC will then travel to Greenwood, South Carolina next Saturday for matches against host Lander and Georgia College.
