HICKORY, N.C. --- Hannah Berling registered
her sixth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 11 digs
but the Tusculum College volleyball team fell 3-0 (19-25, 23-25,
12-25) at Lenoir-Rhyne University on Friday night.
Sabrina Schleuger paced the Pioneer (6-5, 4-4 South Atlantic
Conference) offense with a match-high 11 kills. Rachel Garnett
found the floor on nine kills while Laryssa Welch finished with
six. Melissa Mazur, the NCAA Division II dig leader, dug-up 29
balls.

on 14 digs and 11 kills. Briana Gottenburg also had a double-double
with 21 assists and 11 digs while Jillian Born had 21 digs. Morgan

Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead in the first set
and later held a commanding 21-10 advantage after an attack error
by Schleuger. Welch responded with back-to-back kills but the Bears
later earned set-point at 24-15. TC reeled off four-straight off
the service of Schleuger, but following a timeout Redmond closed
out the set for the Bears with a kill.
The Pioneers earned their first lead of the match early in the
second set and broke a 14-14 tie with three-straight points to take
a 17-14 advantage. However, LR rallied back with an 8-1 run to take
a 22-18 lead. Tusculum then responded with its own run, a 4-0 spurt
off the service of Berling to knot the set at 22-22. Danae Stauffer
and Garnett each had kills in the series.
Both sides traded a point as the score stood tied at 23-23,
but Ashley Wells gave Lenoir-Rhyne set point with a kill. A long
rally ensued, but the Pioneers couldn't force extra points as Sarah
Bouley committed an attack error and the Bears took the second set
and a 2-0 lead in the match.
LR scored the first 13 points of the third set and later held
its largest lead at 23-9. Emily Seele closed out the match with a
final kill as the Bears earned the 3-0 sweep.
The Pioneers will wrap-up a four-match road trip tomorrow
afternoon when they head to Brevard College. First-serve is set for
noon.
