
INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College volleyball team leads the nation in digs according to this week's NCAA Division II statistics.
The Pioneers (15-9, 8-6 in South Atlantic Conference) are averaging 19.52 digs per set, which are also the 13th-best average for all NCAA divisions (DI, DII, DIII).
Sophomore Caitlyn Dean (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has been Tusculum's top defender over the past two seasons. She is currently fourth in the country, averaging 6.1 digs per set.
Sophomore setter Ashley Sarmiento (Dayton, Ohio) is 35th in the nation in assists per set, dishing out 10.37 per frame.
Tusculum is back in action on Tuesday when the Pioneers host arch-rival Carson-Newman College for a 7 p.m. SAC match. Tuesday has been designated as "Dig For The Cure" Night as Tusculum will be raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness.
