
INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College volleyball team leads the nation in digs according to this week's NCAA Division II statistics.
The Pioneers (15-4, 8-3 in South Atlantic Conference) are averaging a division-best 19.72 digs per set, while recording a five-match winning streak entering Tuesday night's SAC clash at cross-mountain rival Mars Hill (8-5, 5-5 SAC).
TC is ranked in three other team categories, while two Pioneers are listed individually in the national statistics.
Tusculum is 38th in assists (12.18 aps), 39th in kills (13.22 kps) and 29th in won-loss percentage (.789).
Sophomore libero Caitlyn Dean (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is ninth in the country in digs, averaging 5.8 per set, which is third in the conference. Sophomore setter Ashley Sarmiento (Dayton, Ohio) is 30th in assists, dishing out 10.54 per frame (2nd in SAC).
Following the Mars Hill match, Tusculum will wrap up its five-match road swing with a pair of Southeast Region matches in Savannah, Ga. this weekend. On Friday, Tusculum will take on defending Peach Belt Conference Champion Flagler (14-5) at 7 p.m., before closing out its trip to Georgia trip on Saturday taking on 16th-ranked Armstrong (21-0) at 1 p.m.
