
WINGATE, N.C. --- Tusculum College's Rhayne Smitherman has been named to the 2010 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional All-Tournament Volleyball Team announced officials Monday.
Smitherman, a 5-11 outside hitter from Columbus Ohio, recorded 19 kills, two blocks and a .268 hitting percentage in Tusculum's 3-1 loss to Carson-Newman in the quarterfinal round of the Southeast Regional.
Smitherman enjoyed an outstanding rookie season with the Pioneers as she led the team averaging 2.84 kills per game, while finishing the year with a .200 attack percentage. She tallied 19 matches with double-figure kills, including a season-high 21 against Southeast Region champion Wingate.
The Pioneers finished the season with a 25-7 overall record, including a program-best 16-2 mark in the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum finished second in the league standings and advanced to the SAC Tournament championship match for the first time in school history. The Pioneers also earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in as many seasons.
