
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior Gina Coffaro recorded a dozen kills and eight digs in a three-set sweep over visiting Virginia Intermont College Friday night at Pioneer Arena.
Tusculum (18-13) won by scores of 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 as the Lady Cobras fall to 7-27 on the year.
It was "Senior Night" for Coffaro and teammate Holli Cadenhead, who also accounted for five kills, six digs and two blocks in the victory.
TC sophomore setter Peyton Colclough recorded 31 assists and 12 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. Tusculum accounted for 10 service aces on the night, including five from rookie Bailee Price.
VIC's Brandi Blessing added 11 kills and nine digs, while Amber Nash led the Lady Cobras' defensive efforts with 10 digs.
Tusculum came out on fire as the Pioneers posted a .500 hitting percentage, while making only one attack error in the opening set en route to a 25-13 win.
In the second frame, Virginia Intermont jumped out to a 7-0 advantage and led 10-3. But the Pioneers responded with a 13-5 run and took its first lead of the set at 16-15 following a service ace by Colclough. With the set tied 19-19, Tusculum closed out the frame with a 6-3 spurt to win 25-21.
Tusculum answered the shaky start in the second set, posting a blistering .417 hitting percentage in the third, winning 25-11 to close out the match.
The Pioneers have wrapped up the regular season slate as they prepare to host the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament next weekend on the Greeneville campus. Official seeding and match times will be announced by the league office later this weekend.
