
SALISBURY, N.C. --- Catawba College completed a perfect regular season with a 4-0 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Courts.
The sixth-ranked Indians (20-0, 12-0 SAC) took the doubles point and won the first three completed singles matches to take their first-ever SAC regular-season title and earn the top seed in next week's conference tournament.
In doubles, Tusculum earned a win at flight three as Samira Butt and Thilda Danielsson defeated Tina Gomes and Nika Dundovic 6-2. However, the Indians won the other two matches by identical 6-4 scores to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Catawba dispatched Tusculum in singles with Vaishnavi Venkatesh beating Jimena Rivera 6-2, 6-0 at flight four, Rin Igarishi defeating Butt 6-0, 6-2 at flight five, and Matilde Moretti taking a 6-0, 6-2 win over Katie Bradley at flight six.
The Pioneers finished the season at 4-14 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
