
MARS HILL, N.C. --- Tusculum University claimed a 6-1 win over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (3-12, 2-7 SAC) swept doubles from the Lions (0-12, 0-9 SAC) and won five of the six singles matches to take the victory.
In doubles, Elodie Baechler and Ylva Frafjord Landa beat Shakti Mishra and Willa Gettys 6-0 at flight one, Valeria Diaz and Katie Bradley defeated Hannah Frazer and Versha Yadav 6-1 at flight two, and Samira Butt teamed with Thilda Danielsson for a 6-0 win over Alaina Holden and Brookleigh Hess at flight three.
In singles play, Baechler defeated Mishra 6-0, 7-6 at flight one, Danielsson downed Frazer 6-0, 6-0 at flight three, and Diaz beat Yadav 6-1, 6-1 at flight four. The two remaining matches were both 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Pioneers, with Butt beating Holden at flight five and Bradley defeating Hess at flight six.
The Pioneers return home to face 20th-ranked Wingate on Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
