
HICKORY, N.C. --- Lenoir-Rhyne University defeated Tusculum University 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon.
The Bears (7-6, 5-3 SAC) took the doubles point from the Pioneers (2-12, 1-7 SAC) and picked up three straight-set wins in singles to clinch the victory.
After Lenoir-Rhyne went up 1-0 in doubles, the Bears extended their lead as Esther Magnusson beat Jimena Rivera 6-1, 6-4 at flight three. At flight five, Enrica Favaron beat Valeria Diaz 6-1, 6-2 and at flight two Nellie Wahlberg was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Ylva Frafjord Landa.
Tusculum won a pair of sets in the incomplete matches, as Elodie Baechler had the lead over Runa Muderrisoglu thanks to a 6-2 win at flight one, while Samira Butt took set one 7-5 over Alexa Allison at flight six.
The Pioneers play at Mars Hill on Wednesday, April 2 beginning at 11 a.m. The Lions are 0-11 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
