GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 41st-ranked Tusculum University women's tennis team knocked off 42nd-ranked Anderson University 4-3 in South Atlantic Conference action Sunday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (8-4, 2-1 SAC) won the doubles point and three of the first four singles points from the Trojans (8-2, 4-1 SAC).
In doubles, the Pioneers fell behind with a loss at flight three but rallied to take the team point. At flight one, Valentina Loretz and Elodie Baechler defeated Laura Alvarez Tello and Alexandria Braithwaite by a 6-2 score, and at flight two Ylva Frafjord Landa and Paulina Loretz captured a 6-3 victory over Valentina Borda and Elena Ronconi.
Tusculum went up 3-0 in the match as Baechler defeated Mariam Bayatyan 6-4, 6-2 at flight one and Landa downed Katie Robeson 6-1, 6-0 at flight three. Anderson stayed alive in the match with a win at flight five, but Paulina Loretz clinched the victory as she defeated Gigi Sompayrac 6-2, 6-2 at flight four.
The Pioneers will travel to face Lincoln Memorial in their next match on Wednesday, March 20 at 3 p.m.
