Pioneers shut out Shepherd 7-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- Tusculum University overpowered Shepherd University in a 7-0 victory in non-conference women's tennis Sunday afternoon at Hilton Head High School.

The 43rd-ranked Pioneers (6-3) lost a total of four games in doubles and four games in singles, with five of their six singles victories coming via 6-0, 6-0 shutouts against the Rams (0-3).

In doubles, Valentina Loretz and Elodie Baechler earned a 6-3 win over Marketa Baladova and Ximena Bolanos Tellez at flight one, Ylva Frafjord Landa and Paulina Loretz defeated Isabella Mascari and Allison Cronk 6-0 at flight two, and Thilda Danielsson teamed with Johanna Selde to beat Kayda Shives and Brianna Caceda 6-1 at flight three.

In singles, Landa downed Baladova 6-1, 6-3 at flight one, with the other five matches all ending with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Paulina Loretz defeated Bolanos Tellez at flight two, Baechler shut out Mascari at flight three, Danielsson blanked Cronk at flight four, Johanna Palacio swept Shives at flight five, and Selde whitewashed Caceda at flight six.

The Pioneers will return to the court on Thursday, March 14 at 9 a.m. against Quincy in a match that will be played at Chaplin Community Park in Hilton Head.
