Nationally-ranked North Georgia picks up win over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The University of North Georgia claimed a 7-0 victory over Tusculum University in non-conference women's tennis Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Nighthawks (4-0), ranked 11th in Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point, then had four straight-set wins among their six singles victories to finish the sweep of the Pioneers (3-2).

In doubles, Tusculum earned a 7-5 victory at flight three as the team of Ylva Frafjord Landa and Johanna Selde beat Valentina Ascarrunz and Carolina Reis.

In singles, the Pioneers took the Nighthawks to three sets at both flights two and three. At flight two, 23rd-ranked Johanna Lippert held off Landa by a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 score, while at flight three it was Viktorie Wojcikova defeating Paulina Loretz 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

The Pioneers will face their third ranked opponent in their last four matches on Saturday when Tusculum travels to the University of Charleston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The 17th-ranked Golden Eagles are off to a 3-0 start, including a 4-1 win over Carson-Newman last Saturday.
