SUMTER, S.C. --- Tusculum University sophomore Ylva Frafjord Landa advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the ITA Southeast Region Championship on Sunday.
Landa moved into the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jada Young of Georgia College in the Round of 16 in her first match of the day on Sunday, but was eliminated with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 setback to Johanna Lippert of North Georgia. Lippert will face top-seeded Nadja Meier of Flagler in semifinal action on Monday.
Landa defeated three seeded players during her run to the quarterfinals, beating 32nd-seeded Valentina Bodra of Anderson on Friday, 16th-seeded Svetlana Teterina of North Georgia on Saturday and eighth-seeded Young on Sunday. She is the first Pioneer women's player to advance to the quarterfinals since Annie McCullough was a semifinalist in 2019.
The native of Sandnes, Norway has a 6-1 record so far this fall for the Pioneers, who will play their first dual match on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Milligan.
