Pioneers listed at 47th in ITA Division II rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team is ranked 47th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Team Rankings, the ITA announced Wednesday.

The Pioneers dropped their only match of last week to Lenoir-Rhyne by a 4-3 score to fall from 39th in last week's rankings. Tusculum, which beat nationally-ranked Anderson 5-2 on Tuesday, is currently 11-5 overall and 7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Also in the national rankings from the SAC are Newberry (10th), Wingate (15th), Anderson (26th), Catawba (33rd) and Lenoir-Rhyne (45th). Tusculum will face three of those teams in the final week of the regular season, with home matches against Newberry on Monday and Wingate on Tuesday and a trip to Catawba on Thursday.

Tusculum has four non-conference opponents who are ranked this week, led by Flagler which is fifth and followed by North Georgia (eighth), Charleston (20th) and Lee (38th).

The ITA Rankings Algorithm is based on an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for a win-loss record, the strength of schedule, and the depth/significance of wins and losses. As the season progresses, the value of each win and loss adjusts to reflect the most recent ranking of the opponent.

The ITA will continue to release a Top 50 National Team Ranking, Top 75 National Singles Ranking and Top 50 National Doubles Ranking each week through April 24, with the final national and regional rankings unveiled in late May following the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Championship.

Tusculum has made two adjustments to its upcoming schedule due to the forecast of rain this weekend. The Pioneers will host Wingate on Tuesday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex, which will force the moving of the match with Emory & Henry to Wednesday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
