Lee rallies late for 4-3 win over #23 Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- A back-and-forth match saw Lee University come away with a 4-3 victory over 23rd-ranked Tusculum University in non-conference women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Flames (2-0) trailed after doubles, but won four of the six singles matches to grab the win from the Pioneers (0-1), who were playing their season opener.

In doubles, the All-America duo of Annie McCullough and Caitlin McCullough defeated Lisa Kirr and Matina Ujdur 6-3 at flight one, and Emilie Hansen teamed with Amber Lackey for a 6-4 win at flight two to give the Pioneers the team point.

In singles, Annie McCullough earned her 92nd career singles win with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at flight one over Micaela Belen Maiz. The Pioneers continued to lead after Julia Lopez downed Carley Sickinger 6-3, 6-2 at flight three, but three straight-set wins at the bottom of the lineup by the Flames were the difference.

Tusculum is slated to return to competition on Fri., February 19 at Young Harris, where the Pioneers will play North Georgia in a morning match and take on the host Mountain Lions in an afternoon contest.
