LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Fourth-ranked University of Indianapolis defeated 17th-ranked Tusculum University 6-1 in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers (1-1) earned their lone victory at number-five singles, where Sarah Primik picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lizaveta Demchenko. Tusculum nearly picked up a second win at flight two, but 24th-ranked Anna Novikova of UIndy came away with a 6-2, 3-6, (10-3 tiebreak) win over the Pioneers' Julia Lopez.
The Greyhounds (2-0) had three players ranked in the top 25 in singles by the ITA in their lineup against the Pioneers, including second-ranked Nikol Alekseeva who picked up a straight-set win at flight one over Tusculum's Emilie Hansen. In doubles, both of UIndy's ranked teams earned wins while the duo of Demchenko and Anna Valiaeva needed a tiebreaker to defeat Martina Marras and Primik by a 7-6 score at flight three.
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 with their South Atlantic Conference opener at Newberry.
