GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum women's tennis team earned its eighth straight victory as the 39th-ranked Pioneers defeated Carson-Newman 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (11-3, 6-0 SAC), who are ranked ninth in the Southeast Region by the ITA, won two out of three in doubles, and swept all six singles matches from the Eagles (4-6, 3-3 SAC) to extend a win streak that began Feb. 23 with a 9-0 win at Brevard. The run has continued through five conference matches along with three contests on the team's Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
In doubles, Katarina Majorova and Franziska Funke defeated Ali Harris and Jill Corsato 8-3 at flight one, while Brittani Brooks and Amber Lackey beat Lindy Tatum and Sydney Ledington 8-1 at flight three.
In singles, Majorova defeated Harris 6-4, 6-1 at flight one, Funke won 6-0, 7-5 over Alisa Liashova at flight two, and Annie McCullough secured the winning point with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Corsato at flight three. At flight four, Africa Mota was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Klara Vuckovic, Brooks defeated Tatum 6-2, 6-4 at flight five and Lackey beat Ledington in a pro set at flight six by an 8-2 score.
Tusculum will remain home this weekend with a pair of SAC matches, hosting Newberry on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Coker on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
